Texas food firm hit with 15t recall

Taquitos are a Mexican-style food product similar to a taco

Texas-based food producer Ajinomoto Windsor has recalled 15 tonnes (35,168 pounds) of frozen ready-to-eat beef products that may be contaminated with rubber.

US, Texas-based Ajinomoto Windsor has recalled over 15t of frozen beef taquito products, due to possible foreign matter contamination, specifically rubber with plastic, according to food safety officials.

The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) claimed the frozen beef taquito products were produced on 30 December 2016.

Ajinomoto Windsor was alerted to the possible foreign matter contamination after two customers complained of finding pieces of rubber with white plastic inside their food.

FSIS said the foreign material originated from Ajinomoto Windsor’s processing equipment.
