Meat science students win US scholarships

North American Meat Institute: the students are the 'bright future' of the US protein industry

Nine US undergraduate students in meat and food science have received financial backing from the North American Meat Institute’s (NAMI) scholarship fund.

University students researching animal protein, meat science and culinary art collectively received $27,000 (£20,750) from NAMI, which regularly provides scholarships to the next generation of meat-industry talent.

The North American Meat Institute Scholarship Foundation congratulates these exemplary students on their impressive record of academic achievement, leadership and service,” said NAMI’s scholarship president Ron Gustafson of Coast Packing.

These high-performing students represent the bright future of our industry and we hope the scholarships will help them achieve their academic and extracurricular goals.

Next generation investment

Iowa State University student Brian Klopf was the recipient of the Frank DeBenedetti Memorial Scholarship; Brogan Horton, majoring in animal science at  received the John Duyn award; and meat science student Kiersten Scott, Texas Tech University, winning the Florence Smith Powers scholarship.
 
Colorado State University contemporaries Jeananne Mosher, Morgan Weinrich and Luke Fuerniss received scholarships to progress their academic work in animal science.

Cole Perkins of Texas Tech University secured a scholarship to continue major work in meat science.

NAMI is the US body responsible for advising the US government crafts on policy and legislation that ensures the beef, pork, lamb and poultry industries can produce meat efficiently and profitably.

It claims to be the “leading voice” in America’s meat and chicken industry.
